Christine wants more PowerStretch in 2013Christine contemplates : It has been another great year of PowerStretching!
PowerStretch 2012 has been a learning journey for me as I struggle to work on strengthening the various parts of my body.
Learning basic things like… breathing, which muscles to engage, discovering own’s strength and weaknesses/ limitations, undoing the wrong & relearning the correct technique in order to feel and have a good stretch…
Ooh… So much to learn and will continue to do so next year with your continued guidance.

Thank you Derrick for your attentiveness, guidance and constant reminders throughout my journey ♥

And the highlight of the year has to be the off- site PowerStretch @ Batam in Dec [note : video coming up! - look out!].
Stretching on the beach was a real test of one’s own strength, endurance and perseverance. Aside from that, stretching on the beach has been a beautiful experience. There in the serenity and beauty of nature… Breathing in the fresh air, soaking in the sun rays, feeling the cool breeze blowing against the skin, listening to the sound of the ocean waves….
Such a memorable experience!

POWERSTRETCH™ Body Toning Workout Basic Routines

Types of Exciting and Fun POWERSTRETCH™ Basic Exercises To Get You Started

PowerStretch Workout

Many new readers have repeatedly asked exactly what POWERSTRETCH™ Body Toning Workout is,  having read many POWERSTRETCH™ testimonials, eating tips and benefits.

The purpose of this article is to explain some of the basic POWERSTRETCH™  workout routines that will get you charged up, toned up, feeling stretched and complaining, yet coming back for MORE:

Before that – let’s take a LOOK at this video about Derrick Ee’s POWERSTRETCH™ that has been watched by over 9,367 people in less than 2 months –  WILL YOU BE THE 10,000th VIEWER?

PowerStretch™ Warm Up

Gentle warm up exercises that wake up your tired muscles, invigorate, and prepare your body and mind for movements.

PowerStretch™ Posture and Alignment

Experience the different floor, sitting, and standing exercises that enhance your posture awareness while helping to stretch, strengthen, and elongate your spine.  A good posture saves you backaches and strengthens your core muscles – and at the same time, you are going to look more confident and gorgeous!

PowerStretch™ Stretch!

This is where most participants complain but TOTALLY ENJOY!  Carefully designed and calibrated floor, sitting, and standing stretches that increase your joints and muscle flexibility as well as your range of movements.

PowerStretch™ Strength Training

Highly IMPORTANT part of the exercise because you need strength training exercises that tone and shape your abdominals, upper, middle, and lower back;  shoulders, arms and hands, hips, thighs and glutes of course.  Strength training develops your ‘endurance’ over time and you can progress to advance levels.  In addition, it will boost your metabolism and helps to lose fat.

PowerStretch™ Balance and Coordination

This is a differentiating factor of Derrick Ee’s PowerStretch™ Body Toning Workout – he is one of the rare fitness instructors with a strong background in dance and martial arts.   Through Derrick – you will learn standing and moving exercises that centre, balance, and move you through space with grace and confidence.

Relaxation and Rejuvation with PowerStretch™

Every PowerStretch™ class starts and ends with delightful exercises to ‘treat’ your muscles.  The body toning workout will end with stretching, breathing, and relaxation exercises that help you decompress, release tension, and recharge your mental and muscular batteries.  Most participants thoroughly enjoy the ‘spa’ workout treatment because of the carefully chosen music by Derrick who comes from an accomplished dance background.

PowerStretch™ Eating Tips For Healthy Living – part 2

Learn 3 More PowerStretch™ Eating Tips For Healthier Living

Take a minute to review this PowerStretch™ Workout video.  Do you think the people in the video can  look that good just by working out rigorously?

I think you know the answer is NO.

Often being disciplined in exercising doesn’t necessarily mean equal willpower in eating.  And many PowerStretch™ students do not actually know what constitute healthy eating habits.   The last article I posted on Top 3 PowerStretch™ Eating Tips For Healthier Living” was so well received because I think it made people sit up and realise the importance of healthy eating basics.

So here are 3 more PowerStretch Eating Tips For Healthier Living -

NO MORE EXCUSES FOR BAD EATING HABITS!

PowerStretch

1.  Eat Fruits Frequently

Eat some fresh fruits daily. And if possible eat fruits at or after every meal. If you are working out regularly with PowerStretch™, there’s no question you need fruit in your diet.  This is Derrick Ee‘s, your PowerStretch™ master trainer’s key recommendation for diet.

Reasons?

(a) Fibres

We all know that a diet with plenty of fibres helps against high blood pressure, corpulence, and other factors that increase the chance for a heart disease. The food that contains these healthy (natural) fibres is…. FRUIT!

(b) Fruit Stimulates Our Brain Cells

If you didn’t know yet: according to some research, fruit is the ultimate brain fuel. Fruit has a positive effect on our brains and regular consumption helps you recall information easier and faster…

(c) Fruit Is The Most Natural Food

Fruit is natural food made by/from plants to be eaten and enjoyed by animals and humans in order to spread its seeds.

(d) Fruit Is 100% Bad-Cholesterol Free

Too much cholesterol is not good for our bodies and fruit doesn’t contain much cholesterol. Unlike animal products like meat and dairy contain a lot of cholesterol, fruits are undoubtedly one of THE BEST DIET COMPONENTS.

2.  Eat More Vegetables

Eat more vegetables, particularly peas and beans – fresh or dried – because they are a very good low-fat source of protein.  Again, you’ll need vegetable if you exercise regularly with Derrick Ee’s PowerStretch™

Like fruits, vegetables are packed full of goodness and often contain a number of essential vitamins and minerals that cannot be found in other types of foods or they may contain higher levels of these nutrients than other foods.

They are made up of water and fibre, which our body needs to help cleanse and rid itself of waste and toxins. Certain vegetables are also rich in vitamins C and E, which are both very powerful antioxidants. Eating dark green vegetables daily could help to protect the body from developing cancerous cells and from suffering heart disease.

Powerstretch

3.  Avoid Heavily Sweetened Foods

For dental health in addition to your physical health, reduce intake of heavily sweetened foods such as sweets and biscuits.

Ok, that’s it for today – I hope you find this article on More PowerStretch™ Eating Tips useful.  Remember head knowledge is not enough – take action to implement these eating tips :)

PowerStretch™ Eating Tips For Healthy Living

Top 3 PowerStretch™ Eating Tips For Healthier Living

Living a healthy PowerStretch™ lifestyle with healthy PowerStretch™ body toning workouts are not enough.  You must watch what you intake into your body system and have the appropriate amount of rest.

There are hundreds of health and eating tips but let Derrick Ee share with you 3 very important basic PowerStretch™ health tips.

PowerStretch

PowerStretch™ Tip 1 : Eat Less Saturated Fat and Sugar

Our diet naturally requires some fat. But it’s important to pay attention to the amount and type of fat we’re consuming. There are 2 main types of fat: saturated and unsaturated.

Excessive saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which increases your risk of developing heart disease. Saturated fat is found in many foods, such as hard cheese, sausages, cakes, biscuits, cream, lard, lard and pies.

Unsaturated fats, whether mono-unsaturated or poly-unsaturated, are good for you.

Exercise will power to cut down, and choose foods that contain unsaturated rather than saturated fats, such as oily fish, vegetable oils, and avocados. For a even healthier choice, use a just a small amount of vegetable oil or reduced fat spread instead of butter, lard or ghee. When you’re having meat, choose lean cuts and cut off any visible fat.

PowerStretch™ Tip 2 : Cut Down on Salt

Even if you don’t have the habit of adding salt to your food, chances are you may still be eating too much salt.  Approximately 75% of the salt we consume is already in the food we buy, such as breakfast cereals, breads, soups and sauces, or when we eat out in restaurants.

Eating excessive amount of salt can raise your blood pressure, and can cause your faces to bloat for certain people. The addiction to salt is damaging our health. Salt raises our blood pressure, which leads to strokes and heart attacks, and this is in turn linked to stomach cancer, kidney disease, and osteoporosis.

You can make use of food labels to help you manage your salt intake.  As a rough guide, more than 1.5g of salt per 100g indicates the food is high in salt.   Don’t spent hours in exercising and stretching your muscles with PowerStretch™ Body Toning Workout without a proper salt management diet.

PowerStretch

PowerStretch™ Tip 3 :  Avoid Getting Thirsty!

The old belief is that we need to drink 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water per day to keep hydrated but scientists seem to hold different beliefs today.  Whatever that may be – as a general rule,

PowerStretch™ Master Trainer Derrick Ee believes that you should drink when you feel thirsty. And when you start having a headache, feel weak, dry mouth, etc then you know you aren’t drinking enough. :)

In addition, there is a theory that we need to drink about 1.2 litres of fluid every day to prevent being dehydrated. This is in addition to the fluids from the food we consume. All non-alcoholic drinks count towards 1.2 litres, but water, fruit juices and milk are the most healthy.

Stretch your willpower to avoid sugary soft and fizzy drinks that are high in artificial sugars and which are high in calories and bad for teeth. When the weather is warm (especially in tropic countries like Singapore), or when we get active, we may need more fluids to hydrate our bodies.

Remember, complement your PowerStretch™ workout with a PowerStretch™ healthy diet and rest.

How To Find A Personal Trainer Who Can Help You

5 TIPS ON HOW TO FIND A PERSONAL TRAINER

Hiring a personal trainer is a big investment of time, money and effort.  Often it means a major change in your lifestyle too.  Therefore, choose carefully and here are 5 practical tips on how to find a personal trainer.

How-To-Find-A-Personal-Trainer

Tip 5. Find Your Personal Trainer Online.  Search online for “how to find a personal trainer” or “how to choose a personal trainer” – you will see about 47 MILLION results!  Don’t panick.  Browse through the 1st to perhaps the 3rd pages of results.  It’s not always that the 1st page results are the best.

Tip 4. Go To Any Gym To Choose Your Personal Trainer.  Decide on where you are going to workout.  If you plan to workout at the gym – go to the big mega gyms – there are lots of them and make the enquiries.  When enquiring – the receptionist may sometimes refer you to the personal fitness trainer who has least number of clients.  So you should ask to review the profiles of the trainers first and you do your own selection instead.

Tip 3. Get Your Personal Trainer Through Your Friends! If you are planning to workout at your home gym or your own venue – then there’s one very GREAT TIP – ask your friends who also hire personal trainers who workout with them at their home gyms!   In fact, asking friends who have benefitted from a great exercise programme is a far superior and practical method to any other means of finding or choosing your personal trainer.

Tip 2. Ask Around To Find Your Personal Fitness Instructor.  Go to the nearest fitness and health stores and ask the salespersons as to whether they know of any good personal trainers.  Tell him you are seeking help to find a good personal trainer and your expectations.

Tip 1. How To Choose Your Personal Trainer.  Ask your personal trainer how much experience he/she has in the fitness industry AND ask for clients’ testimonials.  Clients’ testimonials or referrals are definitely the most important evidence.  Whilst professional qualifications are important – clients’ testimonials are often the best indicator of the success and commitment of your personal trainer.

Finally, if you cannot remember all the above tips on how to find a personal trainer, then just remember this one :

Match your trainer’s capabilities with your fitness goals.  Some personal trainers specialise in Building BIG muscles, whilst others in SCULPTING A TONED AND LEAN BODY.   Don’t just judge a muscular trainer with ability to help you get what you want as your goals may be different from his strengths!

How To Choose The Right Personal Fitness Trainer

Choosing The Right Personal Fitness Trainer

Are you thinking of choosing the right personal fitness trainer  to get rid of that unwanted fat or to start a new exercise regime? Or to look good and confident again as you used to be?

Choosing-the-right-personal-fitness-trainer

Many people start an exercise programme with grand intentions but motivation can and usually wane…. or distractions come in due to work, relationships or other life priorities…a Personal Fitness Trainer will keep you motivated, stay focussed on your fitness goals, and keep your exercise programme interesting and varied.

The good news is that a personal trainer is now alot more affordable than it was years back.    A personal fitness trainer is increasingly becoming a popular lifestyle and healthy choice for individuals – no more the exclusive choice for the rich and famous or celebrities.

choosing-the-right-personal-fitness-trainer

Choosing the right personal fitness trainer for you is important because a good personal trainer can and should :

  • Help you set and achieve your fitness goals.
  • Motivate you to focus on your goals
  • Guide you with the correct exercise techniques
  • Tailor the programme and workouts to suit your fitness levels and goals
  • Offer sound advice on good nutrition and healthy habits
  • Provide objective feedback about your limits and strengths
  • Work with you to have safe, enjoyable and effective workouts.

People use personal trainers to assist them reach their individual health and fitness goals. A good personal trainer will tailor an exercise program to meet your goals and personal health needs, teach you the best way to exercise and motivate you.

Choosing The Right Personal Fitness Trainer

Here are 10 practical suggestions on :

Choosing or How To Choose The Right Personal Fitness Trainer For Yourself

Good places to start looking for a personal trainer include local gyms, health centres or fitness centres. When you’re at the gym, watch trainers with their clients and see how they interact and provide guidance.  Make a note of trainers who get along with their clients and seem fully involved in their workouts.  Ask friends and workmates for word of mouth recommendations or check the internet – there are lots of personal fitness trainers these days as it is the fastest growing health profession.   The next step is choosing the right personal fitness trainer to suit your needs :

    1. What is the personal fitness trainer’s experience level and track record?  Don’t go for trainers who are not properly trained or certified, or trainers who do not sufficient experience or knowledge or fitness or how to prevent injuries.  Get trainers who have at least 3 years of training experience – the more the better.
    2. What are the fitness training fees and how do the fees compare with market rates?  Typically the market rates range between $80 to $150 per hour, depending to a large extent, on how well known the trainer is.  There are some celebrity trainers who charge even larger fees.
    3. Will the personal fitness trainer offer a free first session or a discounted trial period before you commit? This should not be a deal breaker but there’s no harm to see if you can get a discount or a trial.
    4. What is involved in the personal fitness training programme?  Is it weight lifting, body building, body toning, body conditioning or cardiovascular exercise?  Find out clearly before embarking on signing up with your personal trainer.
    5. Is the personal fitness trainer available at the particular times and days when you’re free to exercise?
    6. Where is the personal fitness training venue?  Many personal trainers will come to your home. Or, if you prefer, you can meet your personal trainer at a studio or health club nearby or maybe even outdoors.
    7. Does the personal fitness trainer recommend that you undergo a medical check-up before embarking on a new exercise program? This is particularly important if you have not exercised in a long time, are overweight, are aged over 40 years or have a chronic medical condition.
    8. Ask how they tailor exercise programs for clients. How would your preferences be taken into account? What sort of services do they offer to support you in achieving your goals?
    9. Does the personal fitness trainer offer nutritional advice or refer you to appropriate sources of information on healthy eating?
    10. The Most Important Criteria perhaps : What are the existing clients saying about this fitness trainer?  Will they recommend his personal fitness training services?

Take your time before choosing the right personal fitness trainer for yourself.  Make sure your personal trainer is properly trained or has at least 3 years of training experience before commencing any lesson.  Also, while experience, credentials and track record are vital, it is important to consider another KEY CRITERIA :

Personality and the Chemistry with you should be high on your list of choosing the right personal fitness trainer.  You may be spending a lot of time with this person, at a certain close proximity.  If you do not like or trust the person even if he/she comes highly recommended – find another one.

Choosing The Right Personal Fitness Trainer

Most Commonly Asked Questions In Choosing The Right Personal Fitness Trainer For Yourself :

If The Trainer Is Certified, Does That Means He/She Is Good?

The fact that a fitness trainer holds a professional fitness certification is not a good indicator on whether the trainer is a good trainer or not. The reason for that is because most certifications are very easy to get and in addition, most use outdated information.  Proof : look around and you will find that many fitness certifications can be achieved during a weekend seminar or provided by the fitness company which hires the trainers.

What If The Trainer Has A University Degree And Looks Great?

If the trainer has a degree that is somehow or loosely associated with the fitness realm, that only means that this trainer has a degree!  Such a degree alone does not qualify the trainer as a good personal fitness instructor either. Also, the fact that the personal fitness trainer has the body that resembles the one that you have as a goal does not necessarily mean that the trainer has the experience to motivate others. Some people just have good genetics and whether they know what they are doing or not they end up looking good.  Read also <<How To Find A Personal Trainer>>

What Then Is The Best Way To Choosing The Right Fitness Trainer?

Re-read the 10 pointers above :)  There is NO ONE best way, but one of the most popular way is by word of mouth.  If your friend or someone you know has benefitted tremendously from the fitness training of a particular trainer – go check this trainer out.

Personal Fitness Trainer

Totally Enjoyable PowerStretch Outdoor Class!

Mariani hated PowerStretchTM fitness training initially – but what made her change her mind?

‎15 mins into the first lesson of PowerStretchTM, I started to dread it. I was gasping for air and on the verge of passing out. The day after the class, I could not carry out my regular daily routine without feeling aches and soreness. That was the state of my health when I started PowerStretchTM class by Derrick Ee about 3 years ago. I had not been exercising regularly for decades. I found it torturous and sadistic to go through the various sets of exercise consisting of stretching and cardio works. I told myself that I would stop the class after 1 term (10 lessons). But I did not. For a vain reason: my family members commented that I had slimmed down.

Fast forward to present, as my body is getting accustomed to the workout, I am beginning to appreciate that all the moves and poses are thoughtfully choreographed as I find that my flexibility & stamina and overall health have improved tremendously. The takeaway bonus is that my body is toner & shapelier than it was 20 years ago!

I still don’t like PowerStretchTM. I love it! Thanks Derrick for creating such a wonderful programme!

Erina, who already exercises regularly before taking up PowerStretchTM, has this to say about PowerStretchTM:

When I first heard of PowerStretchTM, I was not sure if it was the same as the power yoga that I had attended before. Well, after my first lesson, I was attracted to the music selected which gave me the power to push myself further. Although I am a very active person, PowerStretchTM enables me to build my endurance, core and overall strength which I didn’t achieve from my previous exercise regime. Every lesson will target different groups of muscles and therefore, create a well-toned body. Aches and pains are unavoidable and I am a person who enjoy the aches after a workout (no pain no gain)…

How we use cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of the website.
